Besides Equity, Hazel is a member of the NUT: to quote 'The Teacher', March 2000

".... schools from Hertfordshire to South Wales have booked NUT member Hazel King's Egyptian dance workshops. Hazel is an experienced Junior teacher with eight years' experience of Egyptian folk, urban and classic dance. She will perform or lead workshops, and also caters for school assemblies and parents' evenings.

Hazel told The Teacher: "Two Ofsted inspectors described my workshop as 'good' - but I prefer to get my references from the children, who have told me they wish they had Egyptian dance every week."

Workshops given in Primary schools (also at secondary and tertiary level).

Pupils' Comments:

.. "I thought it was going to be really difficult but there are lots of tricks to it" ... (Paul aged 10)

.. " I'll remember this day for the rest of my life" ... (Serena aged 7)

Hazel's fellow teachers constantly express surprise and delight at the response and achievement of their pupils including those with special needs!

''I was amazed to see children with quite severe behavior problems concentrating and participating perfectly.' (Cheshunt)

'They loved it - even the 'tough guys' in Year 6'. (Aylesford)

Another year group can attend The Show in which the dance tutor and the pupils perform for the final half hour.

The session starts with a 30 minute presentation of dance in Egypt (Ancient and Modern), followed by 30 minute workshops for each half of the class. The other half remain with the Class Teacher using a dance worksheet, or else take part in a percussion workshop if the Drummer is requested.

80% of Schools are now choosing to book the Drummer.

Some of Hazel's favourite comments:

"It's like a trip coming to us!''

"Are the teachers paying you well?"

Some schools make an Egyptian Day of it and really go to town!
